Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party MP, Mr Varun Gandhi, on Sunday, advocated the idea of ‘son’rise for the ‘aam aadmi.’
"Everyone, these days, talks of bringing young blood into politics but the fact remains that it is only the sons and daughters of established politicians who are getting an easy entry into politics. The same is true for other fields too. Time has come for the youth, who do not have political or affluent backgrounds, to find an easy entry into politics. ‘Parishram’ (hard work) and ‘Parakram’ (courage) should be the criteria," he said while addressing a hugely attended rally in Sultanpur on Sunday.
The young BJP MP said that the role of dynasty in politics should end and merit should be the main criteria for the presence and progress of youth.
"The youth has no employment, no goal, no direction. How can a country progress in such circumstances? I want that every youth should be given a loan of Rs 5 lakhs each so that he can generate employment for himself by starting a small business and becoming self reliant," he said to a thunderous applause.
Criticising women’s reservation, Mr Varun Gandhi said that this had been reduced to a façade because women pradhans were not being allowed to perform their duties.
"The women remain behind their veils while their husbands take full charge of their office. This is certainly not women’s reservation," he said.
Striking an emotional chord , Mr Gandhi said that his relationship with Sultanpur was established even before he was born and his grandmother late Indira Gandhi and father late Sanjay Gandhi had big dreams for the development of the district.
He said that contrary to the general perception, he had not come here to
whip up passions. "Main aag lagane nahin, aag bujhane aaya hoon," he said.
Though the large number of youth who came to attend the rally shouted slogans in support of the young BJP MP, Mr Varun Gandhi, gave no indications of his possible role in state politics.
He did, however, prove his mass appeal through the response at the rally which, in any case, became a show of strength for the young MP.
