Pak should not let nuke weapons go to wrong hands: Kapoor

Pune: The Chief of Army staff, General Deepak Kapoor, on Sunday said it was important to ensure that the control of Pakistan's nuclear weapons command does not go to "wrong hands".

Reacting to media reports that the National Command Authority in the neighbouring country which controls the nuclear button, has been handed over to the Pakistan Premier, Mr Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Army chief said, "It is more important to have proper control over nuclear weapons and ensure that it does not go to wrong hands."

On Sino-India relation, Gen. Kapoor said India has "good relations" with China and there was a mechanism in place to discuss the border dispute with that country.

"There is nothing to get worried about," he said during an informal interaction with media on the sidelines of NDA's passing out parade at Khadakwasla, about 20 km from here.

On infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir, he said terrorists were likely to step up their activities before the snowfall in the valley.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion of the passing out parade, Gen. Kapoor asked the cadets to prepare themselves for a multi-dimensional and technology-driven "modern" warfare.

"Introduction of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons have transformed modern warfare in its range and tempo," he said.

The President's gold medal was awarded to Captain M.M. Markale on the occasion.
