Tirunelveli (TN): Using traditional tools, a goldsmith here has made the "tiniest" chess board along with 32 pieces, equivalent to the size of a rice grain and hopes to make it to the Guinness book of world records.

"It is a square of 3.83 mm length and breadth and the 32 miniature pieces could be seen only using lens," said 36-year-old Sivasubramanian.

He hopes that his silver artifact, weighing 55 mg will find a place in the Guinness book. "I have secured chess Board and the pieces lined on it in a Glass box."

"I have made it using traditional tools. It is fully manual work, unlike in foreign countries where machines do the work on gold or silver metal", he said.

Sivasubramanian, who started his career as a jewellery maker, decided to focus on intricately designed articles.

His first piece of art was also a chess board though much bigger than the present one. "It was 400mg, and measuring 8mm X 8mm. Then I made a chess board in the size of a SIM card," he said.
