Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, Ms Sameeksha Gupta, on Tuesday defeated her Congress rival, Ms Uma Sengar, with a margin of over 33,000 votes to win the post of mayor in the Gwalior Municipal Corporation elections.

The counting for the first phase of elections held on December 11 for 122 civic bodies out of the total 268 in Madhya Pradesh began on Tuesday and the first result for the Mayor's post in Gwalior went in favour of the ruling BJP, state election office sources said.
