RISE programme to be introduced in 35 schools

This is conceived as a pilot project. Every two hours, the trained teachers will improve English speaking, writing and listening skills

KAKINADA: Kakinada Collector Kritika Shukla has chalked out a programme namely RISE (Readiness Initiative for Situational English) for students of 35 Zilla Parishad and government schools for Classes VII, VIII and IX, in Tuni, Tuni Rural, Thondangi and Kotananduru mandals in Tuni Assembly constituency limits.

This is conceived as a pilot project. Every two hours, the trained teachers will improve English speaking, writing and listening skills among the students.

Five Class X students of the Zilla Parishad High School in Bendapudi showed their expertise in speaking English with US accent and Chief Minister Jagan Reddy was among those who appreciated their efforts.

After observing their skills, some of the schools in Nidamanuru mandal in Krishna district adopted the method.

Now, the collector decided to implement the project in the name of RISE. She along with joint collector Iallakhiya inaugurated the Project Module at the Spandana Programme at Annavaram in Sankhavaram mandal on Monday.

She said the programme would improve the English language skills of the students and ensure them a bright academic career.

District education officer D Subhadra said the project was aimed at helping at least 1,000 students from 35 high schools improve their command over English. Subject teachers will be given a two-day orientation on the project before they take English classes based on the project module.

The department is making use of the expertise of ZPHS teacher GV Prasad of Bendapudi in this connection. He is acting as RISE programme director.
