Dec. 2: The US President, Mr Barack Obama, and wife Michelle were left in fumes after learning that a fame-hungry couple had crashed their first state dinner in honour of the Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.
The White House spokesman, Mr Robert Gibbs, revealed the couple were reeling over the security breach by Tareq Salahi and his wife Michaele, who are auditioning for an upcoming US reality TV show.
"It's safe to say he was angry. Michelle was angry," the ‘New York Post’ quoted Mr Gibbs as saying on MSNBC.
The Salahis walked past the camera crews and reporters like other high profilers attending the event on November 24.
The couple shook hands with Mr Obama, posed for pictures with the Vice-President, Mr Joe Biden, and also met the First Couple in the receiving line.
The Secret Service confirmed that the department was “deeply concerned and embarrassed” after the incident.
Mr Gibbs also told the network: "I think the President really had the same reaction the Secret Service had, and that was great concern for how something like this happened."
The Salahis have denied being gatecrashers but Gibbs, on the "Today Show," maintained there could be no room for misunderstanding.
He added: "This wasn't a misunderstanding. You don't show up at the White House as a misunderstanding."
