Feb. 8: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s special general body meeting witnessed unruly scenes after the Telugu Desam corporators demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation each for families of the victims of the Narayanaguda building collapse.
The Telugu Desam members alleged that corrupt GHMC officials and staff were behind the large-scale rules violations in the construction of buildings in twin cities.
The ruling party members objected to discussing the Narayanaguda incident as the meeting was convened only to elect co-opted members.
The Mayor, Ms Kartika Reddy, requested the members to raise public issues in the next general body meeting since this one was convened for election of co-opted members.
Later on in the meeting, Mr Mohd Jani Miya Qureshi of MIM, Ms Mallarapu Shalini and Mr N. Sridhar of the Congress were elected. Those with experience in municipal administration are elected as co-opted members.
