Hyderabad
Nov. 3: The Telugu Desam is all set to forge an alliance with the Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls even as the party decided to release the first list of candidates on Wednesday.
Sources in the TD said the senior party leader, Mr K. Ramamohan Rao, met the CPI leader, Mr K. Narayana and CPI(M)’s Mr B.V. Raghavulu on Tuesday and discussed the alliance.
It is learnt that the Left parties sought 15 seats each while the TD offered seven each saying that lack of strength in the divisions will help the Congress.
The TD, however, ruled out any truck with the Praja Rajyam which failed to forge an alliance with the Congress.
“The TD has decided to forge an alliance with Left parties. The talks on seat sharing are on. The main aim of the alliance is to check the Congress misrule and save Hyderabad,” Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, politburo member said after the meeting.
Meanwhile, the TD has planned a publicity blitz for the GHMC elections with a focus on “development during the TD rule and stagnation under the Congress.”
Party sources told this newspaper that the TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, has entrusted the job to actor Murali Mohan.
