Dec. 17: The Telangana issue created pandemonium in the Lok Sabha for a third consecutive day on Thursday as the Lower House witnessed pro- and anti-Telangana sloganeering by MPs. With some other parties too joining in to highlight their own issues the Lok Sabha faced three adjournments, the last one for the day at about 2.10 pm.
TD MPs later told reporters outside the House that they would raise the Telangana issue in the Lok Sabha on Friday as well.
As for Congress MPs from the Telangana region, they distributed to the media copies of a letter written by the TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, in October to the Union finance minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, supporting a separate state of Telangana.
The Congress MP from Telangana, Mr Sarve Sathyanarayana, slammed the TD chief for changing his stance. “Mr Naidu is responsible for all this unrest. When his party had clearly said that it was in favour of a separate state, why are they opposing it now,” Mr Sathyanarayana asked.
In the LS, trouble began during Question Hour with four TD anti-Telangana MPs — Mr M. Venu Gopala Reddy, Mr N. Krishnappa, Mr N. Sivaprasad and Mr K. Narayan Rao — walking into the aisle and then the Well of the House shouting slogans and carrying placards that read “We want a united Andhra”.
At the same time, another TD MP, Mr R. Ramesh, also from the Telangana region, stood in the aisle with a placard that read “Jai Telangana”.
Amidst all this, a row of Congress MPs opposed to the creation of Telangana were on their feet in Treasury benches.
The late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s son, Mr Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, could be seen gesturing to the anti-Telangana MPs from the Congress benches as he stood at his seat.
