Dec. 24: The Osmania University campus wore the look of a town torn in a civil war after a mob of around 3,000 students shouted slogans and pelted stones on the police personnel on Thursday.
The campus turned into a battle zone when students tried to scale the wall of ‘A’ Grounds to enter the Tarnaka Road. Soon, they started pelting stones when the police tried to prevent them.
Police personnel dressed in riot gear, who were deployed on the roads armed with batons, tear gas guns and rifles, jumped the wall, entered the grounds and resorted to a lathicharge.
Later, the police fired two rounds of tear gas cartridges in the air to disperse the mob.
Seven policemen, including senior police officer Mr Praveen Kumar, were injured in the stone pelting, while two students were injured in the lathicharge.
Senior police officers including inspector general, Mr K. Srinivas Reddy, the joint director of Andhra Pradesh Police Academy, Mr R.S. Praveen Kumar, were present on the campus.
During noon, the students cornered the police units deployed in front of the Arts college bus stop and raised slogans.
The secretary of state for Human Rights Commission, Mr Patil Rao, who came to the campus, recorded the statements of the students who were hurt in the lathicharge.
The mob also chased a unit of the Central Reserve Police injuring a jawan. The police is probing the presence of rowdy sheeters among the mob.
In separate incidents, unidentified miscreants removed the fish plates on the tracks at Moula Ali and burnt a part of the counter at Jamai Osmania railway station late on Wednesday.

Is it possible for all the Universities in Andhra Pradesh to revamp the syllabus for Graduation studies by including Seminars, Project Works, Presentations, Case Studies, Developing Juniors, etc? If this is done compulsory, then all the students will be busy with constructive works apart from their academics and do not find time for becoming puppets in the hands of politicians and Anti- social elements. However, these activities should not cause tension/ added burden to students. I am sure there is enough time left for these activities. This also gives value addition to the individual, they can contribute to the development of the state and they will be able to face the life after their studies. Helps attain leadership qualities. These activities are not new to our Indian Education System. These are very much part of academics in the institutes like IITs, NITs and BITS, I believe. However, the above activities shall be made compulsory and all types of the fee reimbursement(s) shall be linked to the successful completion of the above Co-curricular works by the student(s). I am of opinion, these initiatives do not increase expenditure burden on the Universities, as the resources needed are willing of the authorities, students and time to be spent by the students and guides.

I have just listened to the speech of KCR in Kalinga House about the joint action planned in next few days - Resignations and other events. My question to all Osmania students is first to ask KCR, why he did deceive them with a fast that yielded no results but for continued agony? KCR should be having all the answers but never detailed them. He portrayed glory of artifical victory in minds of people to rake up emotions. I feel Osmania students should take a step back and think if they still want to bet on KCR and dance to his tunes or wait for a alternative genuine leader who can lead from the front to emerge.
A leader who continuously uses local tone (language) to connect to the masses should be shown the door by saying actions mean more than words. Just narrating history milestones will not mean anything. KCR and his team have failed to get a commom consensus and they should face the bullet. Not you, me and all of us who are part of this affected populace. Students, please be sensible and take it easy for a while until a new dynamic leader emerges in the horizon.

Very sane and level-headed comment. I second that. Unfortunately the actions of a few misguided students is going to affect the recruitment of anyone who is from Osmania now.
My question is how did the HC allow opening of hostels while there are no classes? Many students with nothing to do are engaging in these mindless actions.
