Hyderabad, Nov. 27: The Congress Legislature Party met here on Friday and unanimously requested the Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, to name its leader.
However, no name was announced immediately either by the Congress high command or the party observer and the Union finance minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee.
It is learnt that Mrs Gandhi will formally announce the name of Mr Rosaiah soon.
The CLP also passed a condolence resolution, expressing grief at the death of the former CM, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, and paying rich tributes to him. The resolution was moved by Mr Rosaiah.
“I thought Rajasekhar Reddy would attend a meeting to condole my death one day, but destiny dictated otherwise,” said Mr Mukherjee, while speaking on YSR’s contributions. There was a bit of confusion among party MLAs and senior leaders on why Mr Rosaiah’s name was not immediately announced as CLP leader. But the Congress practice has been to ensure the passing of a resolution after which the party observers will interact with the Congress president and inform the MLAs of her choice. Then the MLAs will elect their leader formally.
The government chief whip, Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, told mediapersons after the CLP meet that the Congress president would announce the name of the leader in due course.
In fact, the MLAs present in the old assembly hall were asked to stay back for some time hinting that the election would take place in a short while. But after they waited for 40 minutes, they were informed that the meeting was over.
Mr Mukherjee had apparently told the state minister, Mr Danam Nagender, that the Congress president would announce her decision later.
“Everyone has endorsed Mr Rosaiah as CLP leader and this pause could have been avoided,” said a senior leader.
It was the Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who moved a resolution authorising the party president to name the leader.
Mr Mukherjee then asked the MLAs, MLCs and MPs whether there were any objections to the resolution. All the 150 MLAs, 49 MLCs and 29 MPs raised their hands in support of the resolution.

I will vote for the Congress. The high command has saved AP.
Yes - You are right. No one will trust the Congress. Hope at least now they elect young and dynamic leader not 80+ year leaders.
Sonia is doing the same mistake that Mrs Indira Gandhi did and giving the birth to the Telugu Desam. Who is she to nominate the leader while sitting in Delhi? This will give rise to the birth of YSR Congress like Pawar Congress in Maharashtra.
One gets a doubt whether people in Andhra Pradesh made a grave mistake in electing Congress to power a second time and sending 33 MPs to the Centre who are not of much use to state. It can be easily imagined what is in store for the party in the next polls to municipal bodies next year and subsequent polls, going by the party's performance in the GHMC polls.
The GHMC results only reflected people's disenchantment with the ruling party ministers, MLAs, and MPs and their performance.
Elected representatives have virtually disowned people in the state who are suffering due to misrule and corrupt rule, skyrocketing prices making life miserable to vast sections of people and indifferent state administration to the plight of people.
The sooner the high command realises the damage done to the party and govt due to nonperformance of elected reprsentatives who are most of the time engaged in politicking at the cost of public service, the better it would be for the party. By better show, the heavy damage already done to the party image can be salvaged.
Hope Sonia Gandhi reads this... I supported the Congress for YSR in the last elections. Not for Rosaiah, or D Srinivas. Hardly knew those names.
Next time me and my family will support the TD. Atleast they dont go begging for each and everything to Delhi. What do you Delhites know about the ground situation in Andhra? Zero!
AP is gone from ur hands now.
