Congress president Sonia Gandhi has told MPs from Andhra Pradesh that the decision for the formation of a Telangana state was taken in the greater interest of the nation and asked for their cooperation, the party MP, Mr M. Jagannath, said on Monday.
Disclosing details of Gandhi's meeting with the state's MPs last week, the Congress MP from Nagarkurnool in Telangana region said: "Madam (Gandhi) asked us to cooperate with the party and government in formation of a separate Telangana state."
"She told us that the decision was taken in the greater interest of the nation and we will have to cooperate," said Jagannath.
He said both Gandhi and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had lent their support for a separate Telangana and party MPs from the region would continue their efforts in this direction.
Andhra Pradesh has been in turmoil following the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's announcement that steps would be initiated to divide the state to form Telangana. Andhra and Rayalaseema, the two other regions making up Andhra Pradesh, are up in arms against the move.

Congress plays separatist politics very well. In Maharashtra they are in cahoots with Raj Thackeray, here by crumbling to the pressure tactics by a group of desparadoes (I use this deliberately as they are unemployed, lost badly in the elections, have no guts to fight the GHMC election and whose base has been constantly eroding) Congress has again shown the divisive politics. I thought only BJP plays this dirty game of divide & rule. Over 550 Kingdoms and Princely states lead to India prone to foreign occupation, fundamenatlism and petty regionalism and sub-regionalism are a bane to Indian society and the likes of KCR or Raj Thackrey are the worst culprits. What India needs is not "more Governance" but "good governance". My dear country men, wake up and say no to more States, more Governers, More CMs, More State Ministers and just more governance. Ask for good, clean & honest all round governance, which will ensure growth of all regions and every people
I wonder which country this separation benefits. This is the beginning of the disintegration of India. I think we should call the British back to occupy us all over again so that we can stay united.

OK, now she is asking them to cooperate. First all she needed was advice from her special group of chidambaram, moliey, pranab and ahmed patel.
First sonia should accept that they created a mess and took a hasty decision. Also, promise not to divide the AP.
Well, it is really disappointing to see Ms Sonia Gandhi favoring the division of state supposedly in the greater interests of the nation. I am suprised to see that the central govt has made this decision without doing their homework on the regional issues surrounding this decision.
1. Ever since hyderabad was made the capital of Andhra Pradesh, lakhs of people from various regions moved to the city in search of livelihood. There have been tons of investments in and around the city for the development as obviously it is the capital of the state.
2. Now a group of people demands a separate state for their political interests and it is granted with the capital shifted to the new state - Telangana.
3. The so-called TRS followers have been addressing the other communities living in Hyderabad as 'settlers' and are threatening them to leave the city or face dire consequences.
It's sad to see the central govt favoring such uncivilised trend in the country.
How is creation of a separate Telangana and splitting of Andhra Pradesh greater interest of the nation, as Sonia notes in this news article. Is the greater interest a euphemism for center's way of divide and rule and reduce the power of Telugus (the largest south indian state). With 40+ MPs we do not get the power we deserve at Center, how will groups of 10 MPs from each regional state carry any weight in Center. This is Center's idea of dividing our Telugu Power so they can have the MP seats when they need for their majority but reduce our bargaining power. Wake up Telugus, shun this narrow separatist thinking and let us be united. We (people of Andhra, Rayalseema and Telangana) are brothers and sisters.
I am not sure what Sonia Gandhi means by dividing the state for the better interest of the nation. This is absurd, how could you divide the country into pieces and expect it to be better for the nation. She should know that for the interest of the nation, they should have a strong and experienced govt. They should not bow down to a few unreasonable politicians and make hasty decisions which would afeect the welfare of states. And even now the govt should step up and introduce the resolution at the earliest so that everyone knows what is going to happen and when it is going to happen. They should not start these delaying tactics and keep the process in Limbo. The more early we know the earlier the state can get back to normalcy and avoid further losses in lost investments to other states. If these policians really cared about the welfare of the state and people then they would worry about the effects of these senseless disturbances to businesses and real estate market, and also losing investments to other states. All they care is about themselves. There is not a single poitician who might have gone hungry because he coud not go to work and bring home the money like some of the daily wages workers who have to work every single day too provide a meal to their families. Those people who are being paid and influenced by these politicians to create these disturbances should realise that this will ultimately affect themselves in the long run.
