Dec. 17: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended two followers of Mujeeb Ahmed, who is linked to Hizbul Mujahideen, at Saidabad here on Thursday.
The arrested were identified as Mirza Akbar Baig, 32, of Nalgonda district, and Ghulam Abdullah, 23, of Santoshnagar here.
Mujeeb was sentenced to life imprisonment for gunning down the ASP, Mr Krishna Prasad, here in 1992.
However, the state government had remitted Mujeeb’s sentence in 2004. Soon after his release, Mujeeb re-established his old links, said the SIT inspector, Mr P. Madhukar Swamy.
Mirza was introduced to Mujeeb by one Awadh and travelled to Kashmir twice to plan anti-India activities.
Meanwhile, Ghulam Abdullah was introduced to Mujeeb by one of his classmates Jaffar. In 2005, on the instructions of Mujeeb, Ghulam went to Khatmandu for illegal transportation of arms and ammunition. Soon after, Mujeeb was arrested in Rajasthan while allegedly shifting arms in a truck carrying marbles to Hyderabad. Then, Abdullah fled to Dubai and returned to the city a few days ago.
