Hyderabad, Dec. 15: The home minister, Ms P. Sabita Indra Reddy, has ordered an inquiry into the student-police clash at the Sri Krishnadevaraya University, especially the alleged excessive use of force by the police.

Eight students and nine policemen were injured in incidents of stone pelting resorted to by both parties on the campus.

Ms Reddy also asked the students to maintain restraint and advised them not to resort to violence.

“The future of the students will get spoiled if they resort to violence. Some anti-social elements will always try to take advantage during an agitation,” she said. Earlier, the home minister had asked for a probe into the alleged excesses of police during the Telangana agitation in the Osmania University.

Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam MLAs and MLCs from Andhra and Rayalseema staged a sit-in before the chief minister’s office protesting the police lathicharge of the students.

They raised slogans against the government and demanded action against SP Charu Sinha.

The DGP, Mr R.R. Girish Kumar met the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and briefed him about the law and order situation in the state. Mr Rosaiah asked the DGP to instruct the field level officials to maintain restraint in dealing with the situation.
