Hyderabad, Dec. 21: The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Monday announced the suspension of six police personnel holding them responsible for the damage to public properties in Pulivendula.
These suspensions are in addition to the suspension of the Vijayawada police commissioner, who has been suspended following the MP, Mr Lagadapati Rajagopal’s escape from hospital.
The decision was taken after a high-level meeting chaired by Mr Rosaiah and the home minister, Ms P. Sabita Indra Reddy.
Mr G.V. Ramana, an inspector; Mr Partha Saradhi Reddy, a sub-inspector; Mr Iqbal Hussain, Mr B. Raja Reddy, Mr K. Babu and Mr T. Masthan, all of them constables, were suspended. An armed reserved SI, Mr Dora Swamy Naik was also suspended.
The decision was taken following a report submitted by the Kadapa superintendent of police, Mr D.S. Chouhan.
The arrest of the fasting MLC, Mr Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, who is also former chief minister YSR’s brother, had sparked off widespread protests in the district and led to arson in Pulivendula on December 19, 2010.
A BSNL office at Pulivendula was set ablaze and a cell tower was torched.
The tahasildar’s office, the office of the roads and buildings department and the treasury office were also set on fire. Total loss of property has been estimated to be almost Rs 10 crore.
Meanwhile, the suspensions have been criticised by the cops and their associations.
The Andhra Pradesh Police Officers Association wanted the government to withdraw the suspensions and threatened with protests.
The Andhra Pradesh Police Officers Association state treasurer, Mr M. Gangadhar said, “for the past one month police personnel have been working without proper food and sleep. We condemn the Chief Minister’s comment that police connived with Mr Rajagopal. With the suspensions, the morale of the police has been hit.”
A senior IPS official of ADG rank said, “it is a political decision taken by the government. An officer like Mr K.V. Rajendra
Nath Reddy, who is known for his abilities, was suspended and it sends out a wrong signal.”
The government suspended the Vijayawada commissioner of police, Mr K.V. Rajendra Nath Reddy, saying he has exhibited gross negligence of duties.

If at all any department doing best to their abilities under the current worst conditions, I must say it is the Police Department. They are out there in various parts of the state, away from their families, facing the tough situations, not driven by their emotions and yet trying to controll/pacify the angry agitators to keep the order in place.
On the same hand can the CM take action against the selfish politicians like KCR and others who have landed the State into current situation and as a result, the state lost 1000Cr of business with in three weeks(according to the CII-AP president from the news article http://www.deccanchronicle.com/hyderabad/t-protests-cost-state-rs-1000cr...)? That is just in terms of money and can't imagine the opportunity loss in terms of retaining the future investments let alone attracting them to our state. Not to mention the inconvenience to the people of Andhra Pradesh from all walks of life.
Guess the CM wants to clutch on something or the other. It's a pity that the Police are bearing the brunt of the government's foolishness. If the CM had acted sensibly when KCR started his fasting drama, the State wouldn't have been in such turmoil now.
The suspension of police officers is uncalled for. The govt. was incapable of dealing with KCR with a firm hand. The entire ruckus in the state is the outcome of inefficiency on the part of the govt. Sabita Indra Reddy proved herself a home inister for Telangana and not for entire Andhra Pradesh. This is unfortunate. It shows how degraded our policians are.
CM should be suspended for not acting at the right time against KCR; had the CM taken a stern action against him things would have been different
These political clowns are all supposed to be removed from office as they dont know what they are doing at the state level. What a mess it is at the state.
Mr K Rosaiah is unfit to be CM. If the seat had been given to Jagan it would not be as big as this. I belive Jai Andhra is the pet project of Jagan so that he can show to Centre that Mr Rosaiah cannot handle things... well played Jagan.
