Hyderabad, March 9: The leader of Opposition, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, turned emotional in the House on Tuesday while talking about the woes of flood victims.

He slammed the government and ministers for not helping thousands of flood victims of Kurnool and Mahbubnagar districts.

“Don’t take the issue as a political one,” he said. “It was such a pathetic sight that I almost felt like breaking down and weeping.”

The TD chief said the people went through hell during the floods but the government did not respond. “No minister visited the flood-affected areas but I went there and consoled the victims,” he said.

He alleged that ministers did this to make the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, unpopular among the people.

Ministers angrily objected to this comment and demanded an apology from Mr Naidu. Members from ruling and Opposition benches shouted against each other following which the House was adjourned for 15 minutes.

The government then turned the tables on Mr Naidu by reminding him of how he had mishandled the 1998 floods.

The revenue minister, Mr D. Prasada Rao, said that Mr Naidu was busy with United Front politics at that time and did not even take a decision on releasing waters when the Srisailam powerhouse was inundated.

By stating that Telengana and Andhra are his two eyes, Mr Naidu seemed to have clearly evaded the important issues at hand. He needs to prove his political maturity to bring a solution to this vexed problem. He is from Rayalaseema and still held power in Hyderabad for 10 years. And when the city itself is on boil, he cannot present any views. So will he make his views clear only when he is in power and not now? How clever. A politician should have its views clear for society. Then what's the worth of a politician? He should speak out clear cut solutions to regions problem and launch a debate. I think Mr Naidu has quit his style of functioning, when he used to take strong policy decisions. And now it has golden chance, if Congress finds a solution then it will be bye bye for TD its electoral share will take tectonic shifts. Nowadays people don't shed crocidile tears in politics. Gone are the days of two-party system in AP. Mr Naidu, the region needs a solution. If you are a politician provide the solution. That's what you are paid for. If you don't have it. Then you stand to lose.
