Dec. 8: The health condition of the TRS president, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who is on the ninth day of his fast, is stated to be critical by doctors at the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences.
According to Dr G. Satyanarayana, medical superintendent of Nims, Mr Rao is becoming weaker by the day due to lack of vital proteins as a result of starvation.
Though intravenous fluids are being administered to Mr Rao, his blood samples reveal alarming decrease in the level of sugar, proteins and albumin, Dr Satyanarayana said.
The proteins levels in Mr Rao’s blood samples have gone down from 6.1 gram per cent to 5 gram per cent and albumin levels from 4.1 gram per cent to 3.3 gram per cent. With weight loss due to starvation and lack of body proteins, Mr Rao has become a patient of hypoproteinemia, said Dr Satyanarayana.
Mr Rao is conscious and is able to speak to doctors and his family. However, if he continues his fast, he could slip into coma.
The TRS politburo held an emergency meeting at Telangana Bhavan in view of Mr Rao’s health and appealed him to end the fast. But, Mr Rao rejected the request and told the politburo: “I don’t mind losing my life for Telangana.”
