Nov. 26: Actor-turned-politician and MLA Jayasudha helped the Congress win in all the six divisions falling under Secunderabad Assembly segment in the GHMC elections, while some senior Congress MLAs fared badly. She is the only MLA with hundred per cent success in her terrain.
The home minister, Ms Sabita Indra Reddy’s lack-lustre performance in the two divisions will give enough ammunition for her detractors. The Congress lost both R.K. Puram and Saroornagar divisions on her home turf.
Jayasudha had persuaded the party leadership to give tickets to her nominees in the six divisions and had campaigned vigorously for them.
And when the results were out, Addagutta, Mettuguda, Chilakaguda, Tarnaka, Seethaphalmandi and Bhowddanagar went in favour of Congress nominees.
The health minister, Mr Danam Nagender of Khairatabad Assembly segment, came next by securing five divisions for his party out of the seven. Another minister, Mr Mukesh Gowd of Goshamahal Assembly segment helped the party win four out of eight divisions.
However, the LB Nagar MLA, Mr D. Sudheer Reddy, lost seven divisions to the TD and could ensure victory in only one division.
The Sanathnagar MLA, Mr Marri Shasidhar Reddy, and the Jubilee Hills MLA, Mr P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, also enabled victories in four out of seven divisions in their Assembly segments. Similarly, the Qutuballapur MLA, Mr Srisailam Gowd, won three out of seven.

Clearly Jayasudha is making genuine efforts and getting results and should be rewarded with minister position.

It may be time to evaluate the home minister's performance in this context. She has been in the job long enough to show some results. Leaders should be elected on their own merit rather than on their family members'.
