Hyderabad, Nov. 20: The Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Friday hit the campaign trail for the GHMC polls and addressed over 30 well-attended meetings in Rangareddy and Hyderabad districts.

Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy emulated most gestures of his late father, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, during his campaign speeches, evoking enthusiastic response from the audience.

When Congress workers asked him at several places when he was going to become Chief Minister, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “With god’s grace I will become Chief Minister one day and your wish will be fulfilled.”

Like YSR, he waved his hands to the crowds, stretched out words while speaking, criticised the Telugu Desam chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu in choicest terms, and punctuated his speeches with anecdotes.

The young MP took the blessings of his mother, Ms Vijayalaxmi, before boarding the specially made Ratham from his Begumpet residence at around 9.30 am.

However, his meetings were delayed by more than three hours in all the venues because of lack of coordination and planning.

Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy garlanded status and offered rituals at temples and dargahs like his father used to do.

At one meeting, he also imitated the sound of a 108 ambulance which was passing by to regale the audience.

The only difference was that the Kadapa MP, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy chose to start off from Maheswaram instead of Chevella, which was YSR’s favourite spot.

True to his father’s style, he also lashed out at the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, and said he never kept his promises to implement total prohibition or subsidised rice scheme.

“He was never a match for my father in any respect,” said the Kadapa MP.

At another meeting, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy said that during Mr Chandrababu Naidu’s regime, only “yellow shirts” (Telugu Desam workers) got all benefits but

YSR had addressed to all needs of all sections of society.

He appealed to the people to vote for Congress to give a befitting reply to Mr Chandrababu Naidu, who was thinking of staging a comeback to the post of the Chief Minister.

What can the judiciary do other than punish the deprived and non-influential persons? Why is the judiciary is silant, why is the anti-corruption police silent, why are ED and income-tax officials silent, why are CBI and home minister silent? Why did BJP leaders join hands with the Congress in mining and on the other hand show themselves as opponents in public and fracture society? Is this split personality so important? Does this country have any future. In a country with one crore criminal cases pending in various courts, and these leaders are only infuriating the already wrathful people.

CBN, YSR now YSJ... all birds of the same tree. Don't they feel ashamed that they are worst than hunting animals (coz even animals hunt only if they are hungry). Some times being a tax payer I get shudder to see the extent of scams. How can these guys live so happily? Let's all hope and pray to god that someday these politicians feel shameful and mend their ways.

If Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke on the numerous problems of the city like hopeless roads, encroachments on public roads, traffic nuisance etc and the untold hardship and suffering caused to people in Hyderabad city due to misrule and corrupt rule, it would have been more meaningful and useful and made maximum impact on people.
Hopeless roads, arrogant and indifferent GHMC staff, particulaly in Uppal zone to the plight of the people, poor sanitation and rank indifference of municipal sanitation dept, rampant encroachments on public roads like street no 8, Uppal-Tarnaka main road, and in many areas like Tarnaka, Ramantapur etc, nasty traffic jams caused due to encroachments on public spaces and streets, slum improvement steps etc are some of the problems in Uppal and Tarnaka areas.

He should have mentioned about many other civic and local problems like low voltage, irregular drinking water supply, bad roads and hoardings on public spaces, nonworking street lights and indiscriminate permissions to hotels, buildings and shopping malls by town planning authorities without parking facility leading to traffic problems and road encroachments.

In local body polls, it is civic issues that matter most. In many areas candidates have not visited nor bothered to undertake door-to-door campaign. Another problem is irregularities voter ID cards.

If candidates don't bother to visit areas and ignore voters, in bastis, coloinies as well as in middle class areas, voters would also react the same way as they do not know who the contestants are and what use will it be in electing such candidates seen only at the election time.

For instance in Habsiguda 6th division, under Uppal circle many people have no idea about candidates of various parties. If candidates visit and make door-to-door visits in every street and lane, they may also know the irritating local problems of people.

When candidates ignore people even before the elections, it can be easily imagined how much they bother and care about divisions and people after the polls and getting elected.

Jagan Mohan Reddy would have made maximum impact by his campaign if he touched on local issues and how, if party candidates are elected, they will solve problems of people in the divisions he is visiting.

People particularly taxpayng public look forward to candidates and leaders in their divisions who can solve civic problems and are accessible to common people and not those who are seen only at the election time and never after.

Voters' preferences vary from local body (where they are directly affected)and Assembly to parliamentary polls.

Local issues influence voter choice to a large extent in corporation polls, irrespective of the party. Candidates matter.

Very well said with daily issues affecting everyone clearly outlined and points like these should have inspired the ignorant candidates to speak, but as usual the well deserved candidates are busy at throwing rocks at the Glass Houses they live in. This is the best of times to throw them out and silence them.

YSR family is way better than the Chandrababu family. What did they do for the needy except the Rs 2-a-kg rice?

why do we need to see the news of this pest? All politicians are in there for same no need pan calling kettle black, both parties look at power as means to make money.
