Hyderabad
Nov. 26: The GHMC poll results are a rebuff of sorts for the Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who campaigned actively but failed to create an impression among the voters.
Though he tried to emulate his father, late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, he was unable to work the latter’s magic.
The “Chevella sentiment”, which was synonymous with Dr Reddy, did not work for his son with the Congress losing both the divisions of the Maheswaram Assembly segment.
Maheswaram is represented by the home minister, Ms P. Sabita Reddy, whom Mr Jagan addressed as “Attamma” as his father treated her as his sister. The Kadapa MP, in fact, launched his campaign from Maheswaram.
The next drubbing came in LB Nagar segment where the Congress lost seven out of the eight divisions.
In all the 15 Assembly segments Mr Jagan toured, the TD won a majority of the seats except in Khairatabad and Secunderabad.
However, Congress leaders such as Ms Konda Surekha, who sacrificed her ministerial berth for Mr Jagan, credited the victory to him. They claimed that the party won in 19 of the 32 divisions he toured.
But several senior leaders, who stood by Mr Jagan, admitted that his decision to campaign was a strategic error.
The Congress lost in Balkampet where the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, voted. Vijayanagar, which the Congress hoped to win, was bagged by the MIM.
Meanwhile, a disappointed Mr Rosaiah did not give his reaction on the results to the media. Sources said he will focus on improving the government’s image in next few months to prepare for the urban local bodies poll in 2010. The Chief Minister’s Office will work on identifying major issues in the ULBs and the state government will also focus on infrastructure works.

Why always talking about Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy. The news that he could not impress the voters in recent GHMC elections is 100% true. He is the most junior leader, went round Hyderabad one day like the flying tour of Sonia Gandhi. If he is really interested in Congress he should have worked hard at least for 15 days in both the cities. He is only interested in occupying the CM's chair without effort whereas his father worked hard for improving the image of the Congress and only then became CM.

Good, at least he now knows that he is a failed leader and unfit for politics.

Steep rise in prices: Superfine rice Rs 39 a kg, redgram Rs 86, black and greengram Rs 68 and Rs 65 a kg etc. In the last one year this has made life miserable for vast sections of the people.
The unimaginably poor civic conditions like very bad roads, overflowing drains, stinking sanitation in many parts of the city and an indifferent and unresponsive GHMC, cases of rampant corruption among government and GHMC employees and poor law and order conditions, together with reports of some noncooperative and nonworking ministers and MLAs badly affected Congress image in the state.

In many suburbs and other areas irregularities in voters' lists noticed during last general elections remained unrectified. As a result many eligible voters were not able to exercise their votes.

Candidates representing parties have ignored door-to-door campaigns in areas like Uppal, Habsiguda, Nacharam, Ramantapur etc. In other words whoever have voters do not know their candidates. It is not correct that midlleclass voters, people in colonies and semi-posh areas ignored voting. In many areas voters names were missing and party candidates have not taken care to verify lists.

In such a situation, whoever campaigns, results cannot be any better.

Incumbency factor, rise in prices, poor administration marked by alleged noncooperative ministers and ignoring voters in campaign affected Congress chances largely.

The hype woven around YSR's son just proved to be an illusion! The voters in Maheswaram and LB Nagar segments where he campaigned the Congress lost. What his chelas or coterie thought would catapult him in fact has shown him his place. His efforts to project himself as a force to reckon with turned out to be a damp squib! The high command must be happy at the outcome and also should be thinking that their stand was / is right in shunning him as Chief Ministerial candidate. They have done a great help to people of AP, knowingly or unknowingly by rejecting his / his supporters' claim for the CM's chair.

Congress did not win where CM Rosaiah resides but TDP did not win where Nara Chandra babu naidu resides..
So this is a silly topic to debate, losing and winning is a part of democracy.

Will the "attamma" resign now, given the debacle in her own assembly segment? Doesn't it speak for her performance?
