Dec. 1: Ahead of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on December 6, the police has stepped up security measures in the twin cities. The police has launched a hunt for three terror operators who are on run.
The commissioner of police, Mr B. Prasada Rao, said that Shaik Najiullah alias Naji, who has been trained by the Lashakar-e Tayabba (LeT) in Pakistani terror camps, is now suspected to have joined hands with Viqar Ahmed and Syed Amjad of the Tehreek Galba-e-Islam. “All three of them are ISI activists. We suspect Viqar Ahmed is dealing with Shaik Najiullah, an LeT-trained militant and the grandson of Shiak Mahaboob Ali. We believe they may resort to some violent acts before December 6, 2009. Anyone who gives us additional information about these militants will be rewarded and their names will be kept secret,” Mr Rao said. Viqar Ahmed alias Ali Khan, a resident of Old Malakpet, is suspected in two shootout cases. One of them took place on December 3, 2008, at IS Sadan and other on May 18, 2009, at Falaknuma.
In the 2008 incident, a head-constable sustained a bullet injury. In 2009, on the day of the second anniversary of Macca Masjid blast, a homeguard died and a police constable suffered injury.
Mr Rao added, “Viqar Ahmed knows how to prepare explosive devices. He had also made jihadi CDs and circulated them among other terror operatives.”
Viqar is also wanted in a case of conspiracy along with Simi and HuJI activists who tried to organise terror training camps in the city.
