Hyderabad, Nov. 30: Students went berserk on the Osmania University campus on Monday following the ‘OU Bandh’ call given by various student organisations collectively.
The bandh began in the morning with the students attacking the official residence of Mr Christopher, secretary, AP State Higher Education Council.
Incidentally, Mr Christopher is the cousin of late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. He was allotted a bungalow on the campus a few months ago.
About 1,500 students scaled the compound walls of the bungalow damaged two cars, a two-wheeler, furniture, air-conditioners, and the garden area. About 12 policemen who were guarding the residence could not control the mob. The police rescued Mr Christopher’s family as they were at home at the time of the attack.
However, Mr Christopher said that the cops failed to provide security to his family despite the threat. He claimed that the attack would not have taken place if YSR were alive.
The family moved out of the residence to a safer place following the attack. The student organisations, which have been demanding the varsity officials not to accommodate Mr Christopher on the campus for the past several months, made use of the prevailing tense situation owing to Telangana bandh and launched an attack on his residence.
