GlaxoSmithKline halts work; violence worries investors
Hyderabad/New Delhi, Dec. 11: Even as GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (GSKCH) has temporarily suspended all operations in its factory at Dowlaiswaram, the IT sector’s representative body, Nasscom, has warned that the investor-friendly image of the state will take a beating if violence continues
“It is unfortunate that the HSBC call centre was attacked. IT companies handle mission critical projects, which should not be interrupted. I have spoken to the Central and state governments and also to the police commissioner. They have assured their support and protection to the IT companies,” the Nasscom president, Mr Som Mittal, said.
Mr Mittal added, “It takes a long time to build a reputation. But this kind of violence will affect the state’s image and companies might be forced to migrate. Though I believe the situation has not reached that stage, people should not resort to violence and spoil the state’s image. I advise the youth to stage peaceful protests.”
Meanwhile, the GSKCH said its management has temporarily shut down its factory as a precautionary measure to protect its employees and assets.
The GSKCH executive vice-president (legal) and company secretary, Mr Surinder Kumar, said the company will review the situation on a daily basis and will resume operations at the factory as soon as the situation improves.
The former president of Ficci, Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar, said that the corporates who have been in touch with him in the last 48 hours were more concerned about violence than the political situation.
Asked whether the violence will affect the investment climate in Andhra Pradesh, he, said: “Violence and law and order issues are not good for citizens. What is not good for the citizens is not good for the business and the investors as well.”

The attacks on commercial establishments/ IT industries in and around Hyderabad are unfortunate. The violence worries investors in Hyderabad/AP. It is noticed that some anti-Telangana elements are behind the attacks who doesn't want Hyderabad /Telangana to be developed/Progress.
While welcoming the Central government's/ Congress high command's decision in favour OF Telangana, it is better to form separate Telangana with immediate effect. Otherwise the same forces who are against to Telangana formation will continue the disturbances in Hyderabad/AP with a conspiracy.
I request all business/ industry associations like ALEP, FAPCCI, FICCI,FIEO,CII, ASSOCHAM, Nasscom Etc to support immediate formation of Telangana (which is pending since a long time) to progress both states i.e. Telangana, Andhra rapidly like Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh.
Till now, we are witnessing what politicians feel. But, unfortunately no one is worried about Hyderabad people and businessmen including IT managment team. If information technology sector moves away, what is the use of Telangana or Andhra? Everyone will become losers. One IT job creates 4 to 5 additional jobs. Being in the US, our company started rethinking. I heard GLAXO has already shut down its Hyderabad plant.
Electronic/ Print Media: You are best positioned to impress upon student community that businesses are more important than anything. Politicians will not create jobs, except troubles. Students shall not become pawns in the hands of few politicians.
My sincere request is to pl. collect opinion of businesses and this shall be major component in decision making. Otherwise, every andhra and Telangana so called students need to migrate to other states and be at receiving end, when some one like Raj Thackery starts agitation. Pl. give respect to opinion of Business people. Now a days, it is matter of few months to move a plant also. Imagine how much time it takes to move a BPO Callcenter or IT office. The students should realize competition is heavy from other countries like China and Europe. If every one thinks of working for government, then it is different issue.
Stop investing in costal andhra. in telangana movement no private company operations were disrupted so why not invest in telangana. We welcome all the investors to invest in Telangana districts. :D
majority of the educated resources are from other than telangana......telangana people will fly to middle east......so invest in India not in telangana
All this started because of Hyderabad and the over-development which happened there. So Hyderabad should be made UT and be capital of both Andhra and Telangana.
