Hyderabad, Dec. 23: The ongoing protests in support and against the bifurcation of the state has had an impact on the Eamcet with the AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) being forced to change the Eamcet-2010 convenor, Prof G. K. Vishwanadh, within two days of his appointment.
Prof Vishwanadh will be replaced by a person from the Telangana region.
The APSCHE on Monday had appointed Prof Vishwanadh, a senior professor and director of evaluation at JNTU-Hyderabad, as convenor of Eamcet -2010.
But due to stiff opposition from the university staff, who demanded the appointment of a person from the Telangana region for the post, the APSCHE replaced him and appointed Prof N.V. Ramana Rao, principal, JNTU College of Engineering, who hails from Telangana region, as the Eamcet convenor. Meanwhile, Prof Vishwanadh was made the co-convenor of Eamcet.
This issue has raised a debate among the university circles on whether a person should be appointed to head an exam like Eamcet on the grounds of efficiency or other factors.
Eamcet is most popular and toughest entrance exam with large number of applicants compared to any other CET in the state.
According to university officials, Prof Vishwanadh has been handling the JNTU exams wing efficiently as the director of evaluation for several years.
About 50 teaching and non-teaching members of JNTU-Hyderabad had raised strong objections on the appointment of Prof Vishwanadh on the grounds that he hails from the Andhra region.
Faced with stiff resistance from staff members, Prof D.N. Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of JNTU-Hyderabad, had requested the APSCHE to look into the matter. The officials discussed the issue on Wednesday with the JNTU and subsequently replaced Prof Vishwanadh.

this is not fair the poor guy lost his job within just two days wat was his fault??????
This is ridiculous. Now why students from Andhra region are appearing for exams where the convenor is from Telangana?? If this trend continues, that's the end of academics and begining of politics.
So what is your problem? do you think people from Telangana region capable of ?
Let efficiency/merit only prevail over the appointment of such sensitive positions rather than seniority, regionality.
I fear if this trend seeps into IT industry.
Where is the line that states that Vishawanadh was below 26 persons in seniority and still was superseded in his appointment? Just don't fudge facts. Find out the facts and then write "efficiency/other factors" based on your own theory.
