Nov. 3: The DGP, Mr R.R. Girish Kumar, on Tuesday said Maoists are active along the Andhra-Orissa border and the anti-Naxal operations by Central forces in the neighbouring states can result in their spillover.
He said the police will take steps to stop Maoists from sneaking into the state during operations.
“We are on alert along the inter-state borders. We will retaliate if the Maoists unleash violence,” he added.
Meanwhile, the home minister, Ms Sabita Indra Reddy, conducted a high-level review meeting on the Maoist situation in the state with the DGP, additional DG (law and order) Mr A.K. Khan and intelligence IG, Mr M. Mahendar Reddy.
The meeting gains significance in the wake of the two-day bandh call by the Maoists starting Wednesday. The minister asked the top cop to provide security to VIPs and politicians.
Meanwhile, the Agency villages in north coastal Andhra are tense following the bandh call in protest against Operation Godavari in AP and Orissa. While Maoists are making all-out efforts to make it a success, armed police personnel have been deployed to thwart any Naxal attack.
