CM seeks Rs 6,000cr for floods

New Delhi, Dec. 2: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Wednesday said he had discussed the Telangana issue with the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in view of the recent violent protests in the region.

Mr Rosaiah, who is on his first visit to the national capital after being elected the CLP leader, met the Prime Minister and the Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, at Parliament premises.

“Yes, I discussed the issue with Prime Minister,” he said. “He has asked me to tackle it in a sensitive manner.” Mr Rosaiah denied that law and order had deteriorated in AP and said he has been in touch with the TRS leader, Mr K. Chandrashekhar Rao, who is on fast demanding a separate Telangana. He added that the TRS leader had been arrested only to save his life. The Chief Minister condemned the violent mode of protests and said that development cannot happen in such a scenario.

He added that the Congress had tried to evolve a consensus on the Telangana issue but was not successful.

During his meeting with the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Mr Rosaiah sought Rs 6,000 crore as advance for rehabilitation and restoration works in the state which faced heavy floods recently.

Meanwhile, around 12 Congress MPs from Telangana met the Union finance minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, and told him about the situation in the region in the wake of recent incidents of violence.
