Oct. 25: The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Sunday asked officials to launch a special drive to bring epidemics under control.
According to a Chief Minister’s Office press release, Mr Rosaiah declared a war on the outbreak of epidemics in different parts of the state.
He called for a high-level meeting on Monday to review in detail the outbreak of epidemics like dengue and chikungunya.
The Chief Minister held a teleconference with senior health officials including the principal secretary, Mr J. Satyanarayana.
He said separate wards should be set up at the Institute of Tropical Diseases, Osmania and Gandhi General hospitals.
The main focus should be on creating facilities at MGM Hospital in Warangal also, he said.
On reports of rising number of malaria cases, dengue and chikungunya, the Chief Minister directed the chief secretary, Mr P. Ramakanth Reddy, to be in constant touch with the
district collectors and monitor the cases on a daily basis. Immediate action shall be taken to arrest the spread of the vector-borne diseases.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the outbreak of diseases in flood-affected areas of Kurnool, Mahbubnagar, Kadapa, Nalgonda, Krishna and Guntur districts, where there was water stagnation for a long time.
He directed the officials in these districts to prevent the spread of diseases.
Mr Rosaiah also directed the municipal corporations, municipalities and other local bodies to take up a special drive on sanitation and water stagnation in their respective areas.
The officials told the Chief Minister that intensive sentinel surveillance had begun to get information of diseases from both the government and corporate hospitals.
