Hyderabad, Nov. 23: The youth, who constitute a major chunk of voters, stayed away from voting taking a toll on the polling percentage in the GHMC polls on Monday.

While, the youngsters were missed at the polling booths, cinema theatres, hotels and shopping malls were packed with young people enjoying the “holiday.”

Some said that though they had voted during the general election, the GHMC polls were of no interest to them. They said they found these polls “boring” as they were unaware of the candidates.

Others were put off by the goof-ups in the voters’ list.

“When I went to cast my vote at Himayathnagar, I found my name missing. This was surprising as I had casted my vote in the general elections. I was told to go to the Narayanaguda booth. But my name was not there either. This happened to my friends as well. Fed up with this, we came back without casting our votes,” said Mr B. Karthik Kumar, a B.Tech student.

Youngsters who had shown interest in general elections ignored GHMC polls. The reasons are not far to seek. They have no trust in the candidates who are not bothered when city roads which are in such hopeless condition. A general feeling among youngsters is that candidates field by various parties are useless lot, out to make money at public taxpayers' cost. Hyderabad city civic conditions, poor law and order, nasty traffic are enough reasons. Added to it in many areas candidates have not visited houses or did door to door campaign. One can imagine their conduct after getting elected. These are some of reasons for people staying away fom polling booths apart from rude answers by GHMC staff and employees.to enquiries about polling booths, voters list missing names etc.
