Dec. 24: Legislators from the city are divided about “active” participation in the Telangana agitation. Only five out the 24 MLAs from Greater Hyderabad have resigned from their membership on Thursday in support of a separate state.
The Congress MLAs, Mr P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, (Jubilee Hills), Dr Shankar Rao (Secunderabad Cantonment) Mr Nandishwar Goud (Patancheru), BJP MLA, Mr G. Kishen Reddy (Amberpet) and the TD MLA, Mr T. Prakash Goud (Rajendernagar) were the five legislators to resign.
The MIM has seven MLAs, all from old city and none of them have resigned. They are not willing to even comment in favour or against the movement. The MIM president and Hyderabad MP, Mr Asaduddin Owaisi, maintained that the party will make its stand clear at an appropriate time.
Speaking to this newspaper, the Congress MLA from Sanathnagar, Mr M. Shashidhar Reddy, said he has already conveyed his opinions on Telangana to the high command.
“I am a member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), which is headed by the Prime Minister. My rank is equivalent to a Union minister of state. I want peace to prevail in all the three regions of the state. In fact, I was the first one to raise the issue of Telangana long ago. The people of Telangana know my stand on the issue,” he said when asked about his plans to resign.
The backward classes welfare minister, Mr M. Mukesh Goud, (Gosha Mahal) said he had no problem with the latest statement given by the high command.
“Why should I quit?” he asked. “My stand has been clear. I am for a Union Territory status to Greater Hyderabad in case a separate state is carved out,” he said.
The health minister, Mr Danam Nagender, blamed the TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, for the turmoil in the state.
“Mr Naidu is encouraging his party MLAs from Andhra to agitate. He has not made a clear statement on Telangana till date. The Congress is clear and will take the opinion of all sides. I will abide by the decision of party high command,” he said.
Other Congress MLAs from the city are also waiting for a direction from party leaders on their future course of action.

Hyderabad is capital of Andhra Pradesh for 53 years. It was capital of Hyderabad state for just 8 years 1948-1956. It was Nizam's capital prior to 1948 and was predominantly muslim populated. During the past 50 years people from all parts of the state migrated to their capital and made Hyderabad their home town. Some politicians demanding exclusive rights over Hyderabad for just Telangana region is not only unjust but also untenable.Bifurcation of state - who are benefited - easy guess!!!!

Hyerabad was cap city of nizam state, and will remain as the cap city of telangana. People who are opposing are either real estate investors from Andhra or people setteled from other states. Even after formation of telegana these people can live and prosper in the Hyderabad. We are not telling them to go back. There is nothing to fear.

Politicians are the torchbearer of society, but in AP they are fighting for their own benefits not for the comman public!

All those who DID NOT resign will be forever boycotted by the electorate. Rumours are already floating that Lagadapati has paid off hugely to city elected representatives. Have to wait and see if thats true. Because these things will definately come out sooner or later. At that time they will be declared as TELANGANA DROHULU. These MLA's have no ethics.

Is this not high time the Representatives of (People i.e. MLAs, MPs, Industry, Business, National Educational Institutes, Religions, Economic and Administrative Research Centers etc,) from Greater Hyderabad meet and be a link to emotionally divided Telugu brethren of Andhra Pradesh? i.e. Telangana, Andhra and Rayalaseema. There is need for the Cosmopolitan Hyderabad to take lead without fear and favor. This part can form a separate state or a UT and form a nodal developmental guide for all the remaining separated states. I do not think the students, youth and peace loving citizens of the City will object to this initiative. Assurance to be given to them is that peace will prevail, development takes place and employment potential improves with attracting investments in Industry, Agriculture and Business from all over the world.

This is the best opportunity to project and make Hyderabad as a Global City and model City in India.

When Singapore can be a country, why not Hyderabad be a State in India, with a Crore population and already well developed and a seat of Science, Technology and Services?

One can take a lead now when our political parties and their representatives are afraid of speaking frankly. Electronic Media too is averse to taking opinion of representatives from Hyderabad metro for discussions and forums. Metro Politicians are not opening up. These two aspects, particularly, are very unfortunate. The citizens of Andhra Pradesh will regret, in the present fast changing economic situation, if there is lack of openness and leadership from enlightened Hyderabad.

Hyderabad is the capital of the new State of TELANGANA.
