Hyderabad, Dec. 25: The ongoing confusion over the unity or otherwise of the state seems to have raised tempers in the city with a sarpanch getting injured in a drunken brawl. According to the Petbasheerabad police, four persons attacked a sarpanch, injuring him near a wine shop here on Friday.
Bollapally sarpanch Venkat Reddy and two of his friends were consuming liquor near a wine shop at Ramarajunagar discussing the ongoing Telangana agitation. A second group of four persons was also discussing the issue consuming liquor nearby. The four were identified as John, Rajesh, Sunil and Lenin, all residents of Subhashnagar nearby. The two groups soon entered into an argument and as tempers rose, Sunil broke a beer bottle in a fit of rage. “The broken pieces of the bottle struck Venkat Reddy on the hand, due to which he suffered deep cuts,” the Petbasheerabad sub-inspector, Mr Ch Netaji, said.
John was taken into custody, while Sunil, Rajesh and Lenin are said to be absconding.
The Petbasheerabad police registered a case of 324 IPC (voluntarily causing hurt) after Venkat Reddy lodged a complaint.
