Hyderabad, March 9: The Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal is all set to come out with an interim report in August directing that the surplus water from the river be shared by AP, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Until now, AP has been enjoying exclusive rights over about 330 TMC ft water of the Krishna River under the Bachawat award. The Brijesh Kumar tribunal has reviewed this decision on the request of Karnataka and Maharashtra and has decided to divide water among the three.
While Maharastra has demanded 130 TMC ft water, Karnataka is going ahead with irrigation projects requiring 244 TMC ft. The state government has also proposed an irrigation project with capacity of about 249 TMC.

It's a matter of shame on part of our AP Govt for their negligence to utilise and protect our right on Krishna surplus waters. It's shortsightedness of successive governments especially Chandrababu Naidu (CM for 9 long years) for negigence leading to loss of water allocations. Our state is basically agro driven economy and loss of water rights is a serious set back on farmer's prosperity.
It's like the famous fairytale "Do Kawwon ke beech, Faida Bander ka". No one would have thought, this could happen. Krishna water was heavily utilised by Andhra & Rayalaseema region by political force and will leave harsh scars to Telangana. The fight has begun over water resources for Telangana and now the harsh reality, the states have started their asking for their share from it. Obviously, this is justice to all the regions of India, everyone has the right over its natural resources. Not just Andhra & Rayalseema people and its lobby.
