Hyderabad, March 7: Growth in the aviation sector poses a major challenge for the environment as commercial air travel accounts for 3 per cent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
The International Air Transport Association that represents airlines of all countries was concerned over the increase in the emissions. It has asked the airlines to adopt eco-friendly technology to cut down pollution.
Boeing, Bombardier and other aviation majors said they will adopt eco-friendly technology to ensure clean skies and environment friendly journey for the travellers.
Various airlines of India are also insisting on eco-friendly planes to suit their future needs. India needs about 1,030 aircraft worth $138 billion in 20 years.
Meanwhile visitors to the aviation show on the last day were disappointed as the modern jets were not displayed. Many of them who bought tickets in advance, were told that only a few planes were on display. “There is no refund facility0,” rued Mr Ramanaji, a resident of Ameerpet. Visitors also complained about lack of drinking water facilities at the venue.
