Ahmedabad: In what could be good news for women suffering from endometrium related disorders, a doctor here has claimed that pregnancy using the stem cell therapy has been achieved in a patient reported with damaged endometrium.

"For the first time, a 34-year-old lady from Kutch has successfully conceived after undergoing stem cell therapy treatment here," claimed Dr Chaitanya Nagori, of Dr Nagori Institute for Infertility and IVF.

"Using the stem cells extracted from the patient Poonam's bone marrow, we successfully regenerated the damaged endometrium (inner uterus wall) in her and pregnancy has been confirmed," he added.

The destruction of endometrium is primarily due to tuberculosis or repeated curetting, which prevents pregnancy in women, Dr Nagori said.

"Usage of stem cell therapy is a cheaper and safer method of curing endometrium related disorders amongst women, and we have sent our case report to Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction," he claimed.

The cost of this treatment ranges between Rs 15,000 and 20,000, and the treatment is more safer than any alternative method of conceiving as the patient's stem cells are used for regenerative purposes, Dr Nagori claimed.
