Graceful danseuse enthralls audience

The second day of the Annual Youth Dance Festival kick started with a spell-binding Bharatnatyam performance by Sushmita A. Murthy. The young danseuse, who is a class IX student of Meridien School and disciple of Geeta Ganesan, is also an expert Kuchipudi dancer and a student of Carnatic music.

Sushmita began her performance with the Vinayaka Kauthvan, which concluded with the beautiful alarippu in the nattai ragam. She impressed the audience with her stunning moves followed by the traditional varnam in Shanmukha Priya Ragam.

Susmitha was at her best when she performed the Gangavataram where she depicted Lord Shiva, who majestically locks Ganga on his head in the song Bho Shambo. The Shiva postures coupled with the thandava beats enthralled all. Her sringara padam which depicted Mugdha bidding farewell to Lord Venugopala was excellent. The performance ended. with Thillana in Mayamalavagowla Ragam, in praise of Lord Karthikeya. Sushmita’s enactment of the deity with complex rhythmic patterns was good. Geeta Ganesan was the vocalist and on the Nattuvangam. Rajagopalachari on the mridangam, Saikumar on the violin and Srikanth on the tabla put up a good show.
