Living in her own world

Meghana Raj is winning over Mollywood with her positive attitude and love for singing

The lissome lass dressed in a black tee and grey tracks, who made her debut in the Malayalam film Beautiful, is radiating a serene inner glow. Gone are the extra pounds and in place is a svelte and happy Meghana Raj. The reason? She has just realised a long-standing dream of crooning for a Malayalam film — 100 Degree Celsius directed by Rakesh Gopan.

Meghana has already sung for her Kannada film Bahuperak and this is her second song. There’s more. She has shared screen space with her parents in Bahuperak, who play her reel life parents and in a role reversal, she was the one instrumental in convincing them to do the role!

Coming back to her Malayalam song, Meghana gushes, “Gopi Sundar, the composer, gave me the lyrics and asked me to sing it then and there! I am not a professional singer, but I love singing. I stood in front of the mike and it wasn’t difficult to croon, except for the pronunciation. My diction came out right but more importantly my dream came true!”

Meghana plays a TV reporter in 100 Degrees Celsius and admits that initially she was skeptical about accepting the film because of the ensemble cast. But the thriller concept of the film attracted her.

The shooting of the film proved to be a roller coaster ride, she says, “On the first day, all the four of us (Shweta Menon, Ananya and Bhama) were looking in four different directions. I knew Ananya but Shweta and Bhama were new. There is one thing I should mention about the Mollywood industry; all the actors, be it Mohanlal, Prithviraj or Bhavana, they all believe in breaking the ice without any ego issues. After day one, it was one big party with gossip, chats, discussions and clarifications happening between shots. The one person who was going crazy with all this was Rakesh, but he too got along well with us.”

A beautiful single woman in Tinsel town is bound to attract attention from every quarter and Meghana has not been spared by gossipmongers. “Linkups are a part and parcel of any actor’s profession. But sometimes, when you are spotted with a friend, immediately two and two becomes five! What I would want is that those who write about me should at least have the courtesy to check the facts with me!”

Talking about the positive side of her profession, she says, “Popularity, glamour, fame, money and travel are all perks but there is also the corresponding invasion of privacy but I guess everyone’s privacy is up for grabs now.”

Throwing light on her outlook on life in general, Meghana reveals a dreamy side, “While my friends have complicated problems, I believe every problem will have a happy ending! There has never been a major problem in my life and I believe that if something is not right today, it will be right tomorrow. The happy endings in films has seeped into me and my friends often tease that I live in my own world.”
