Remember Payal Ghosh — the actress who made her debut in Prayanam? After making her Bollywood debut in Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi last year, she has now landed another Hindi film — Jai Mata Di. Payal’s role in the film is loosely based on the self-proclaimed spiritual leader Radhe Maa. She hopes that it will mark a turning point in her career.
“When director Saurabh Verma approached Payal for the role, she readily agreed to do it because she found the script exciting. Though the film is titled Jai Mata Di, its script is unlike what you’d imagine. It has a mixture of romance, comedy and devotion. Payal has been looking for this kind of role for a long time. Her character is loosely based on Radhe Maa and she is leaving no stone unturned in preparing for it,” a source reveals.
Shooting for the film will begin in August, and a major part of it will be shot in Uttar Pradesh.
A source close to the actress says that the lead actor of the film is yet to be finalised. Talking about the project, Payal says “After my first Hindi film, I was looking for a script that would excite me not just as an actor but also as a viewer, and Jai Mata Di is the perfect film. I am currently prepping for my role. I have been watching videos of Radhe Maa to get into the skin of the character. I am eagerly waiting for the shooting to begin.”
