“I don’t like being put into a category,” says Raashi Khanna, speaking to us just as she gears up for the release of two of her films, Touch Chesi Choodu and Tholi Prema.
Almost four years since the release of her debut film, Oohalu Gusagusalade, Raashi seems to have slowly, but surely entered into a zone of comfort. “In fact, 2017 is the year I am very proud of as an actor. More so because of the challenges that it put me through! As much as I like being part of commercial films that give me visibility with a wide audience, and love being the glamourous girl, at the end of the day I am an actor and nothing can be more satisfying than being appreciated for my craft,” says the actress who ventured into Malayalam cinema last year with Villain — the film that brought her acclaim. “The film put me in a different zone,” she adds, sharing that Jai Lava Kusa showed her in a new light too.
And Raashi hopes to repeat the same feat this year as well. “The role I was waiting for came in the form of Varsha in Tholi Prema. It’s always exciting to be part of films where you matter and add value. This is one such character for me. I believe the film will establish me as an actor because I have put in great effort to be a character I couldn’t relate to even at a basic level,” she explains, adding that the character affected her a great deal. Apparently, this was the most challenging role she has taken up thus far.
“It’s not easy to transform into a character physically. I have three different looks since my role spans 19 to 25 years. So I had to put on weight for one of the roles. That did pose continuity issues with my other films,” she explains, adding that she’s glad to be part of a full-fledged love story for the first time since her debut film.
Alongside that, what has been a source of excitement for Raashi is Touch Chesi Choodu, where she takes on her much-loved comic avatar. “I really enjoy comedy and it has been great fun to be a part of the film. With this, I think I have gotten better at comedy!” she concludes.
