When director Muthaiah first narrated the scene in which actress Poorna would have to get her head tonsured, she was shocked. “I said, ‘What?” recalls Poorna, adding, “Then I asked him to give me some time to think about it; afterwards, I said yes.”
Not surprisingly, Poorna’s mother was upset with her daughter’s decision. “She was unhappy, but I want to be different from the others. If I want to do realistic cinema and convince the audience in authentic roles, I have to walk the extra mile,” she explains.
Ask her how she felt while shooting for the scene, and the 33-year-old says: “I was nervous and was hoping to complete it soon,” Poorna smiles as she adds, “But I know the potentiality in my character. Also, there are a bunch of surprises for the audience.”
