A new association is on the cards

Filmmaker Suresh Babu is planning to get active producers together under one body.

Frustrated by the lack of representation for producers in Tollywood, filmmaker Suresh Babu is gearing up to start his own association. He lamented the fact that most ‘new’ producers don’t have proper knowledge of filmmaking.

“When I told the members of the Film Chamber of Commerce that I want to start a workshop for new producers, they didn’t show any interest in it. Today, there are thousands of producers but only a few are actively making films. So I have decided to start a new association along with other producers who have a good track record. We will only include those who have produced a film in the last three years,” he says.

On the Telugu Film Producer Council that was dissolved because of some allegations, he says, “There has been so much of corruption and so many mistakes. It’s better to start a new association instead of trying to rectify those.”

When asked about the recent Chicago sex racket and a Tollywood producer’s involvement in it, he says news has to be verified before being aired. “People don’t bother to check the facts. They say he is a Tollywood producer but I have never heard of him. These days, if an actress has acted even in one film, she is called a ‘Tollywood actress’. I think Tollywood has become a soft target,” he explains.
