Vijayawada: A case has been registered on film director Ramgopal Varma in Suryaraopeta police station on Saturday, responding to a complaint registered by Tummala Padma, BJP Mahila Morcha leader, of Vijayawada. The case has been registered under Sections 506 and 509. One other case has been filed against Mr Varma in connection with God, Sex & Truth, a short film released by him, in Hyderabad and one more in Visakhapatnam.
Ms Tummala Padma has complained that it was due to Mr Varma’s comment on Twitter, in response to her tweet, that many others are making vulgar comments and abusing her online. She complained that she has been receiving threat calls too. Basing on her complaint, the police registered a case of malignity of woman under Sections 506 & 509.
Tummala Padma told DC “He is an irresponsible person, not caring for the society. I am getting vulgar messages and threats. I demand that Mr Varma be arrested and punished severely. These sections are not sufficient for this case”. CI of Suryaraopeta, M. Satyanarayana told DC, “We have received a complaint from Tummala Padma on Mr Ramgopal Varma, film director. We have registered the case on him under Sections 506, 509. Our inquiry has started and will call him for further investigation.”
