Another director awaits debut

The fate of newcomer T. Pratap hangs in the balance with his directorial debut Anaganaga O Prema Katha releasing in December.

T. Pratap will soon be joining the ranks of the many debutant film directors, who have helmed Telugu projects in recent times. He is directing the film Anaganaga O Prema Katha that will be introducing a few new faces.

Born in Kadapa but brought up in Visakhapatnam, Pratap was keen on entering the film industry after completing his graduation. “I got a job at Wipro, Pune, but my dreams of filmmaking brought me to Hyderabad,” says Pratap. A stranger in the city, he first joined a private channel and worked as programme producer back in 2009.

“After working there, I met director N. Shankar and joined him as an assistant director and worked with him on a few films,” says Pratap. He then assisted other directors, all the while preparing his own subject. “I was supposed to do a film for another producer, but I met financier K.L.N. Raju there and he was interested in doing a film. I narrated the story to him and he liked it. He then asked me to narrate the same to many of his family members, and they all liked it,” says Pratap.

The director describes his debut film as a pure love story, but adds a crucial point. “There is no villain in my film. The conflict involving mind reading is going to be the negative point,” he says. The success of other new directors has boosted his own confidence about his debut venture. “Telugu cinema has changed in recent times and the audience too is encouraging,” he says positively.

Pratap reveals that his film touches upon the recent killings that have made the news. “Going against one’s parents and marrying a person one is deeply in love with is not bad. But my point is that if your love is strong and true, you should try to convince your parents to accept it, instead of going against them. So, I deal with this using a scientific approach,” he says.

Pratap will also be introducing a pair of newcomers to play the lead. “Finally, my wish comes true after seven years and I am eagerly waiting for my film’s release,” he says. The film will hit cinema screens in December.
