A humorous take on education

Chetan Maddineni’s upcoming film First Rank Raju is a Kannada remake.

Chetan Maddineni is eagerly waiting to see his upcoming film First Rank Raju, the remake of a Kannada film with the same title, also directed by the same person, Naresh Kumar.

“It’s a universal subject that shows how students try their best to get the highest rank with only bookish knowledge,” says Chetan, adding, “The film revolves around a person called Raju.”

Apparently, the film also highlights how parents are forcing their kids to study more. “It’s a message-oriented film and we thought that if we make it a serious one, people may think it to be an art film. So we chose to stick to comedy and added many commercial ingredients without missing out on the main message,” says Chetan. Further, he reveals that he wanted to buy the remake rights from the Kannada producer, who came forward to produce the film in Telugu too.

“He didn’t give us the remake rights, but he wanted to produce it in Telugu too, so the same director Naresh Kumar directed it. We however, changed a few scenes to suit the Telugu nativity,” shares Chetan, who studied at Andhra University and completed his B Tech. “I had all toppers in my class,” he says.
