A welcome move

Unlike the earlier time period of three weeks, films will now be streamed on these digital platforms only eight weeks after their release.

The Telugu Film Producers Council has taken an important decision regarding the streaming of Telugu films on digital channels like Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hotstar. Unlike the earlier time period of three weeks, films will now be streamed on these digital platforms only eight weeks after their release.

“It’s a good decision taken by the Producers Council, especially as Hindi filmmakers are already implementing the same in Mumbai. We will start from April 1,” says producer Suresh Babu, who adds, “This decision will definitely boost the revenue of the films in theatres and it’s a welcome one.”

While the digital channels have been buying Telugu films at high prices and screening them, audiences have been keeping away from theatres since they have an online option.

However, the long wait time of eight weeks now may prompt audiences to once again go back to the theatres to catch the latest releases.
