Working in the South is liberating, says Ritika Singh

The Mumbai actress adds that working in South films has been a liberating experience.

After the success of Venkatesh-starrer Guru, Ritika Singh will next be seen in an untitled film, directed by Hari. The actress, who has also ventured into Tamil films, recalls how she landed the role. “The filmmakers saw one of my earlier pictures in which I have curls and said that they were looking for an actress who has similar features. I was more than pleased to replicate the look after listening to the script,” reveals Ritika.

The actress explains that director Hari wanted her to be herself to play the part in the Taapsee Pannu and Aadhi Pinisetty-starrer.

“I play a girl from the upper class. I am outspoken and speak my mind, and this is how I am in real life too. My director let me be myself to make the role look realistic. My costumes too are a mix of western and Indian wear,” she shares.

The Mumbai actress adds that working in South films has been a liberating experience. “The audience has been warm and accepting. I am learning the culture and style of filmmaking here. Also, I am getting more and more offers in the South and am picking up both the languages (Telugu and Tamil) by observing people on the set. It has been a great journey so far,” says Ritika.
