The attack has made me stronger: Dollysha

Girls should continue to fight, says Dollysha

It’s been a week since Dollysha (aka Shalu Chourasiya) was attacked by an unidentified man on the walkway of KBR Park in Hyderabad. While a hunt is still on for the perpetrator, the actress says she experienced trauma for two days, and can still feel the shivers that shook her during the attack. But she refuses to let the incident get her down.

Dollysha had gone jogging as usual in the Banjara Hills park around 8 PM and was returning to her car which was parked at the side gate when the attack took place.

“In between the main gate and the side gate there is a place that’s very bushy, and dark too. The guy attacked me at that place. He stuffed my mouth with cloth, pushed me onto a rock and demanded money from me,” Dollysha reveals.

In the attack, the actress fractured her leg. However, keeping her wits about her, she asked her assailant for his mobile number to transfer money online, and on that pretext, she dialled 100. She cut the call, but when she tried to do it again, the man realised what was happening, snatched her phone and threw a huge stone at her. She managed to avoid the stone, but fell again. “I had bruises on my head, legs and all over my body. I was almost unconscious and lost my energy to resist him,” the actress recalls.

The man then tried to molest her, but she managed to push him away and start running, Dollysha says. “I tried to climb the park’s fencing but fell down and hurt my back and shoulder badly. I managed to clear it in my third attempt and fell on the road,” she says. She shouted for help, but at first, no one heard her. Then some men who were passing by in an autorickshaw stopped and came to her aid. Seeing that she was injured, they immediately called the police. Dollysha says her assailant, who saw the men who had stopped to help her, managed to escape.

The actress was sent to a private hospital for first aid and was discharged after four hours of treatment. Dollysha, who lives alone in an apartment, informed her parents about the horrific incident. Her mother praised her for her fighting spirit, and told her to never give up, shares the actress. Revealing that she would soon start learning karate for self defense, Dollysha says she will not let the incident affect her in any way. “I will continue to go for walks at the KBR Park but I will be more careful and park my car at the main gate,” she says.

Girls shouldn’t back down, they should continue to fight, she asserts. She has also appealed to the police and Forest Department to provide lights at critical points in the area.
