I stayed in city for six years: Shraddha

The actress talks about her Tollywood debut and city connect.

After creating a name for herself with films like U Turn and Vikram Veda in the Kannada and Tamil industries, Shraddha is gearing up for her Telugu debut directed by Ravikanth Perepu and produced by Rana Daggubati. “It’s a modern day love story about a guy (played by Siddhu Jonnalagadda) who can’t decide on who he loves the most — his ex girlfriends or the current ones. The quirky plotline, which I believe is fresh to the Telugu audience, drove me to sign the project,” says the actress.

About her role, she says, “I play Sathya, a Bharatanatyam dancer. She’s a practical girl who knows when to draw the line. Her life takes a new turn when she falls in love with a guy.” Interestingly, not many know that the actress stayed in Hyderabad for six years. “I stayed in Trimulgherry in my teen years as my dad was in the Army, and I attended Army Public School and Kendriya Vidyalaya. So I know the language (Telugu) a bit. I have fond memories of the city and it’s a great place to party,” she shares, adding, “My crew on the sets said that I speak Telugu like a localite, and my director even asked me to dub for my lines.”

Shraddha feels that working in multiple industries gives her visibility. “Although you have to start from scratch and learning a new language is a bit difficult, the best part is that you get great visibility as an actress, apart from the constant learning. Also, you get to experience the culture and understand people better,” says the actress who has also signed another Telugu film, directed by Vishwanath Arigela, opposite Aadi.
