Sridevi and Rekha have been chosen for the prestigious award, informs T. Subbarami Reddy.

Actresses Sridevi and Rekha will be honoured with the ANR National Award for 2018 and 2019 respectively. An announcement to this effect was made on Thursday by the awards committee Chairman T. Subbarami Reddy and ANR’s son, Nagarjuna.

“When ANR received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, he decided to establish an award in his name so that he would remain in public memory forever. He asked me to be the Chairman of the committee from then onwards,” recalled T. Subbarami Reddy (TSR), who added that many great personalities have received the prestigious award till now.

Praising the efforts of TSR, Nagarjuna said he was the reason behind the success and popularity of the award. “Subbarami Reddy garu has been a close friend to my father and to me too, even though there is a big age difference between us,” said Nagarjuna, who revealed that he looked upto TSR whenever he needed any guidance or advice.

Further, the actor added, “My father wanted to give this award to Sridevi long ago, but it got delayed for some reason. However, Boney Kapoor will receive the award in her memory.”

As for actress Rekha, Nag shared, “She usually doesn’t attend many functions, but she told me that she will definitely come to receive this one because it’s the ANR Award. Not only did she share a good bond with my father, she also took guidance from him about the film industry.”

The award function is slated to be held on Nov 17 at Annapurna Studios, with Chiranjeevi as the chief guest.
