I asked Vijay to really punch me: Amit Sharma

Amit Sharma, who played a significant role in the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, gets candid about various aspects of his career.

While Vijay Deverakonda created quite a stir across the country in Arjun Reddy, another actor from the film, Amit Sharma, has also been receiving solid acclaim. Seen in the famous football fight scene, his acting as an antagonist is receiving rave reviews. Several GIFs and memes of the sequence where Arjun says ‘Rey Amit’ have become popular on the Internet since the release of the film’s trailer, making his character quite popular.

Amit is a theatre actor since six years and has been a part of the group Sutradhar, just like Vijay. Talking about how he got the chance to act in Arjun Reddy, he shares, “A friend, who is a costume desi-gner, told me about the film. He gave me the director’s number and I called him immediately and told him that I wanted to act in the movie. Sandeep said, ‘How can you call and ask for a role? Come for an audition.’ I met him and we spoke for three hours. He said I had the apt attitude and arrogance for the role.”

Talking about the now famous classroom scene, Amit recalls, “Vijay, Shalini and I are all from theatre, so we synced well. The scene where Arjun comes to hit me along with Preethi, was shot in a single take! I asked Vijay to really punch me, so that it looks real.” Meanwhile, the actor will next be seen in Prabhas’ Saaho. “I am also in talks for another big project. I want to keep doing negative characters,” says the 24-year-old, who has been meeting several of his fans personally since the film’s release.
