Money is not my priority: Anupama Parameshwaran

The actress talks to about her films, career choices and more

Malayalam actress Anupama Parameshwaran is now gearing up for her second Telugu film Premam where she’ll be seen in the same role as that of the original Malayalam version. “The difference is the language and a few changes have been made to suit the Telugu nativity. In the Malayalam version, my name is Mary and in the Telugu one, I am Suma. There aren’t many changes in the character though,” says Anupama who chose to do both the versions of the film. “I loved the Malayalam Premam very much, so when the team approached me for the other versions I couldn’t say no. The only trouble was the language. After that, I got into the role,” she adds.

Naga Chaitanya has three shades in this film and Anupama pairs with him in the second stage. “I was curious as to how would he transform his body and looks, but when he came to the sets, I was surprised to see him in a perfect avatar. It’s a good experience to work with Chaitanya as he is very down-to-earth, friendly and he encourages me since I am a newcomer,” says the actress.

Talking about her debut film A Aa, Anupama says “Trivikram is one of the top directors here so when he asked me for his film, I couldn’t say no, even if the role was very small. Whether small or big, I love to experiment with my roles,” she says. After this film, Trivikram and Anupama have become friends. “His opinions and suggestions are really worthy. He keeps advising me about my career,” she says.

A lot of Malayalam actresses are coming to the Telugu film industry. “The film industry is bigger here. For me, money is not a priority as I am always on the lookout for experimental roles and I seek happiness in them. I want to work continuously, but at the same time, I don’t jump at whatever comes my way. I am not ready for a female-oriented role at present because I am young and inexperienced. If I have the confidence that I can pull the film all alone, then I’ll surely do it,” says Anupama.

At present, she is shooting for Sathamanam Bhavathi opposite Sharavanand. “I’ve just comeback from a place called Tanuku and have grown fond of it. It’s green and beautiful and reminds me of my home in Kerala. People there used to call me with my character names. I am proud that my characters have connected with the audience,” says Anupama who in fact became an actress by chance. “Acting had a special place in my heart, but I never tried it. One of my friends sent my photos to somebody who passed it on to the director, that’s how I debuted in Malayalam. That was the miracle in my life,” smiles Anupama.
