Telugu audiences celebrate films as festivals: Sumanth Shailendra

Sumanth credits two people for inspiring him to become an actor.

Sumanth Shailendra, the son of popular Kannada producer Shailendra Kumar, is all set to make his Telugu debut with the film Brand Babu.

“I have done four films in Kannada but this is my first Telugu film,” says Sumanth, adding that he had asked Maruthi to write a script for him in Telugu. “Brand Babu was supposed to be directed by Maruthi, but because of his other projects, he asked Prabhakar to direct it instead,” shares Sumanth.

Ask him the reason behind doing a Telugu film, and the actor replies, “Telugu is a bigger market than Kannada and Telugu audiences celebrate films as festivals. When I got this script, I loved it and decided to make my Telugu debut with it. My father also produced a film earlier.”

Sumanth credits two people for inspiring him to become an actor.

“My father has been in the industry for the last 30 years and produced many films. When I went to Mysore to see the shooting of an Upendra film, a huge crowd turned up and went crazy when they saw the actor. I have also been greatly inspired by Allu Arjun. After I saw his film Arya, I decided to become an actor,” shares Sumanth, adding that his father put a condition before he could join the industry.

“He did not want anyone to point out my acting or performance, so he asked me to train fully and then only start acting,” reveals Sumanth, who adds, “I would like to do all kinds of genres and roles, provided it excites me.”

In Brand Babu, Sumanth’s character uses only branded objects. “Maruthi garu took me to a place where many rich people come and I observed them there,” he says, adding that as an actor, he always observes his surroundings first.
